Slice Plane
« on: November 05, 2012, 12:54:41 PM »
Maybe a daft question, but what i want is a stretch of grass running alongside a path which seems very simple and is if i say use single elements for the grass. But if you use the same method in the tutorial whereby you create a clump of grass, then distribute that, because it works off the centre point, you get grass appearing over the edge of your spline.

Is there a way to say use a slice plane or the likes to be able to stop the model being distributed from going over a certain area?

Thanks

You can set Areas->Boundary Checking->Size, to use not only the position of the clump in the boundary area checking, but also its width. But in any case, Forest scatters only complete items, it is not possible to "slice" the clump.

You should use smaller clumps of grass, or even individual blades. But of course that will generate more items in the scattering process, so it is necessary to try several values to get the best ratio size/items for each scene.

There are alternative methods, as combining two clumps of grass with different sizes in a same Forest, as described here:
