Title: can you delete the original trees in a scene
Post by: Brit on September 08, 2012, 08:12:24 PM
just working through the barn tutorial (up to video 3), very good

Wondered if it is possible to delete the scatter objects trees after creating the forest, or will that muck up the scene?
Cheers

No, it's not possible to delete them. Forest keeps a reference direct to the objects.

Even the plants imported from the Library Browser, are stored in the scene (in this case, in the hidden layer "forest_templates").

Thanks.

Another question:-
if i update/change the materials on the original scatter object trees , will it update the forest or do i have reload the trees?

Forest doesn't use directly the material assigned to the oject, but the material defined in Geometry->Geometry List->Material.

Since this parameter is updated when a Custom Object is selected, you should reassign the object, or drag the new material to the slot.

We have plans to add a "Reload all" button to the geometry list, to simplify this task.
