ForestPro has this feature
« on: March 23, 2010, 07:23:07 PM »
Hi,
I'm trying to convince my boss to by forest pro, but i want's to know if this feature is available since i says he will only buy if there is support for using a map to setup the scale of the trees. Is this feature available or is there any way of achieving it?

Best regards,

Hi,

In the current version there is not a scale map option. We have planned to add it for the next releases, besides new transform features.

Hi,
Is there any chance if you buy this version as it is to have early access to these new features, or beta test them?

Yes, all Forest Pro registered users have access to the beta versions.

However, at this moment we have not an estimate date for the next beta. We are actually working in the changes for Max 2011, and possibly we will include some new features, but we don't know if scale maps will be one of them.

Thanks for the honest reply. I will try to convince my boss any way i can since we aren't so happy with our previous solution, mainly due to the lack of support.

Best regards,
Daniel

OK, just to help you with your boss... I am excited with ForestPack Pro, I use it all the time... It can work with every renderer I know, I use Maxwell and the results are great... 2D or 3D trees can be used, and since all new renderers have instances or proxy objects as they call them, you can have great results with minimum hardware. So don't just sit there, buy it... Also, Max 2011 will have a paint feature that will work like Vue's echo system brush so combined with Forestpack it will give you full control.
I will sign it only if it is a piece of art!

Thanks Dimitris,
We mainly use VRay (and use the competition plugin for scattering, not to my liking), and the vrayproxy feature for our work is a must, as for 2011 painting feature i'm already using in production for 6 months since i'm on the beta, and i must say it really is worth the upgrade, the viewport canvas (in 2011) is another point that when doing "green work" is a must, since it help a lot in controlling various parameters of a scatter like plugin, and if FP is going to support this then is really great.

Best regards,
Daniel

Finally we are going to buy, i could show my boss that using the multiple objects with different scales (and with random scales turn on) and grey map with color id's on the objects i could get the same effect we were after.

Best regards,
Daniel
