Which licence type should i buy.
« on: August 21, 2015, 06:25:33 PM »
Hello Itoo ,

Today i am buying the forest pack pro. I have a sever i work on and 20 rendering nodes the nodes are strictly used for rendering only.
I work on my server where i'll be installing creating & editing forest pack pro and the rest of the machines including the server i work on are going to do the rendering job with the help of deadline software. Please point me in the right direction which licence type should i chose network or standalone.

Hello, thanks for contacting with iToo Software and for your interest in our products.

Non-interactive render modes (as batch render, distributed rendering, backburner or deadline) don't require any type of license. The license is necessary only to edit or render Forest objects interactively on workstations. We mean interactively as using 3sd Max manually by an operator.

So, in this case you would require a single Stand-alone or Network license. You can see the differences between between both types in our Purchase and License FAQ.
I suggest the Network license, because it offers more possibilities on a network environment, as the same price.

In case of any further question or doubt please don't hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

No, once activated the license cannot be changed, except in exceptional circumstances.

This is mentioned in the FAQ link you provided.

I have several workstations but a single Network license. As soon as a workstation open a Forest scene, it grabs the license from the server. How can i avoid it ?

ans :- Just switch the license mode to "Stand-alone" (Itoo Software->Forest Pack Pro->Change License Mode), clicking cancel in the license code request dialog.

You can switch back to the Network license mode in any time, running the configurator again. In this way, you can define easily what workstations are authorized to use the Forest licenses.

That trick changes the local configuration of the workstation (to use a Network or Stand-alone license), but not the license type itself.

The practical effect is that the workstation doesn't grab a license from the Network pool, because it's configured in a wrong mode (Stand-alone). But that's all.
