Is there a way to get the lines to have more edge definition? In real life the paint is sprayed down and can only affect certain blades of grass, but in the tutorial the entire clump is color and it gives the lines a less man-made feel. You can really see the paint bleed effect in the red/white/blue area.

Would it be as simple as using a smaller clump of grass?

Yes, the edge definition depends directly of the clump's size.
The limit is the number of items that will be generated: with the current settings, there are about 1 million items in total. I think it would work fine up to 5 mill. or perhaps more.
