Title: Question on Forest Pro licence
Post by: titopte on May 08, 2013, 08:55:00 PM
Hi,
we are wanting to upgrade to Pro for an upcoming job, but have one question on the license system.

Due to some physical and operational characteristics of our workflow and studio capabilities, we do not do network rendering, but instead, manually asign frame blocks to our machines copying the project on the ones that will render that sequence (yes, awkward, i know, but thats how we are doing it right now).

On that basis, drawing and editing Forest objects -and in general- will be done in just one workstation. My question is if it is posible to just render the Pro scenes on the other machines with any of your license configurations that does not imply to buy one separate license for each machine that will render.
We only want to be able to render them, not to edit or create new Forest objects.

I understand that Lite will not render Pro scenes, even without the capacity to edit them, right?

I understand that setting up a network will ease things, but due to limited space, we have separate offices among partners, and for now, copying the files over have worked for us.

Thanks in advance.

Forest Lite cannot render scenes created by the Pro version, basically because it has some features disabled.

The license is not required when Max runs on non-interactive modes, this include all types of Network rendering and Batch render. So, in this case a workaround would be create a a batch render file, and run it on the render node. Or alternatively, run a Backburner server locally... one for each workstation.

Thanks Carlos,
then, there will be no problem with just the installation of Pro -without an actve license- and running the jobs from command line.

Thanks again, will confirm our purchase when we get the job confirmed as well.
Cheers
