"explode" forest to Vray Proxy
« on: September 15, 2015, 03:24:34 PM »
I am trying some object (these objects/models are already vrayprxoy) placement with forestpro. So far so good, the only thing that bothers me is as soon as something changes with the reference object I have to regenerate all models again.
To avoid it I want to be able to "explode" the forestpro object back to vrayproxy objects. This will also let me place my models more carefully.
Is there a way to do so?

Hi,

The conversion can be done by using very powerful tool which is part of Forest Pack Pro called "Forest Tools". This allows you export your distributed geometry to instances. It can be found it under Utilities panel - More ... - Forest Tools. You have a lot of possibilities what will happen with your instances after conversion to mesh (for example moving all instances to new layer is very useful).

All these Forest items (having the proxy object selected as Custom Object) will be converted to instanced proxy objects - VRayProxy / CoronaProxy / mr Proxy pointing to source files (not meshes).

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Reading this post i would have a question.

Do you experienced visible difference about rendertimes or memory usage, changing from forest pro objects to corrisponding vrayproxy "exploded" objects?

Thanks

The thing is Max crashes every time I try this so I still have to figure it out.
Other then that I never had to convert my forest objects.

From our experience, there is a limit in the number of items that Forest Tools can convert. About over 50k items, processing time grows exponentially. Same for viewport and render.
Unfortunately we cannot improve that, because the limit seems to be in the Max core.
