3ds Max 2020 - Forest Pack Vertex Color Support
« on: January 18, 2023, 01:53:21 AM »
I am having a BEAR of a time trying to do the simplest thing with Forest Pack, seemingly related to what is described in this thread.

I want to mask out certain regions using a greyscale mask (e.g. 'Surfaces > Mode > UV'), and manually paint out certain regions using splines or paint brush.

However, 'Areas' are disabled when using UV surfaces, so splines or paint brush are not an option.

The linked post (see above) described a method using 'Diversity' > 'Match Color ID on Map', and passing 'Vertex Color map' into the channel as a mask, but this has been HORRIBLY unpredictable.

What is the workaround for this issue?

Update to FP 8 and use paint in UV mode.
