4.0.1 Presets and OctaneRender
« on: February 27, 2013, 01:23:46 PM »
Greetings Wizards,

I am using 3ds Max Design 2013 64 bit with OctaneRender 1.00 64bit (for Max) and Forest Pack Pro 4.0.1.

Using the Forest Pack presets and rendering with vRay works fine.  The same scene (with Octane daylight and Octane camera) rendered with OctaneRender shows up as a white material.

Can anybody point me in the right direction to resolve this?

Currently the Library does not include materials for Octane; only Scanline, VRay and Mental Ray.

So how do I go about changing the materials?  They seem quite complex.

The procedure is easy: just drag them from Geometry->Material to the Material editor and back. There is a material for each element of the Geometry list.

Some elements (as the clumps), may include multiple materials with the same name (within a multi-sub). Usually they are the same material, you can instance them.

Also it is possible to create custom libraries, for example to keep Octane versions of the presets. This is a bit more complex, you can find the procedure here.

Hello! I am unable to get the Octane material to work with the grass. I must be missing something. My grass remains white like the initial posting. Any suggestions? Thanks! Brian

We have found a problem in the Octane: it takes the material assigned to the Custom Object, but ignores the material assigned in the Geometry List. This issue is already reported to Otoy.

As workaround, locate the grass custom object in the "forest_templates" layer, and assign the material directly to it.

You're the best, Carlos!  ;D So, I need to unhide that layer, then find that object in my scene? I apologize for my Max ignorance.

Yes, you must check the name of the object in Geometry->Custom Object, and then locate it in the template layer. This layer has both hidden and freeze flags, so uncheck these flags to modify the object.

If you find it easier, make a copy of the object, rename and move it to the default layer, and then assign it to Forest.
