convert grass to instances - issue
« on: August 08, 2016, 06:50:59 PM »
Hi,
Just found out some issue when converting forest grass to instances.
Instances are not covering all surface, density is not enough. I tried to change point-cloud global&local density, but that not helps. (by default it is set to 50%, I put it to 100%)

Please help how to deal with that.
Thanks

Hi, Forest Tools generates only visible items at viewport. It's a security mechanism to avoid create too much items.
Just set Display->Max.Items to 0 before applying Forest Tools. That disables the display limit.

Hi,
I got additional question
Is there any way to convert forest to instances and keep border behavior?
otherwise it's useless to convert grass as it goes through all curb stones  :(

Hi,

I guess you're referring to the Edge Boundary Checking mode. There is no "physical cut" performed while using the Edge mode (as this would be extremely resource demanding) - the "trimmed part" is treated by the render engine as a kind of Matte object internally (this way render engine ignores it for its calculations).

For further "instancing", I would suggest a slightly different work-flow described in our Grass Edges tutorial (where small & large clumps are mixed, while the Boundary Checking mode is set to Size).

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
