Title: a gradient mix between 2 objects

Hi! I need to make a gradient mix between 2 different objects inside one forest object.
For example, 2 different color cobble stones that gradiently mix into one another. Is there a way to define the distance falloff for each object separately depending on a border or a spline?
In the attachment you can see the desired end result.

Would it work for You if it was using Gradient Map?. I have attached my scene using customized effect:
