Alright... I'm experiencing quite a bit of weird behaviour from Forest Pro at the moment.

At this moment I am unable to add objects to a new Forest object. I can add geometry and surface and whatnot but nothing is displayed in the viewport or rendered on the new FP object. The stats tell me something like 15K trees are added and all other lines say "N/A" ...

This has nothing to do with camera visibility (I have it disabled on all FP objects) and also not with the total number of displayed objects in the viewport because I have tried with like 500.000.000 max objects and 500 million faces. And even IF it was a display thing... it also doesn't render  :(

The stats of the other (main) FP object tell me there are 3.7 million trees. I have point cloud display mode with 10%.

I'm stuck now with no way out...  :-\

Also, if I create a preset and I apply it to a new FP object, the surface goes missing. The stats say "area or surface is not defined" or something to that effect. Adding the surface and refreshing does nothing. The FP object stays empty (probably linked to the issue mentioned above).

Does it happen on a new fresh scene using billboards or only in the production scene ?

If the test object works, the problem would be in the Custom Objects, because the stats windows reports that there are scattered items, although they are not visible.

What type of objects do you use ?  What is the result changing to billboards ?  And using a simple mesh as a teapot ?

I'm sorry for the delay in my answer but I am under a lot of pressure at the moment. Need to finish the project tonight! However, once I'm done with this I will do the tests you have suggested and report back with the results. I will also whip up a test scene that you can use to investigate this issue (and the other one about the camera visibility where all objects disappear when using a VRay 2 camera).

I'll post as soon as possible!!

Thanks again!
John

Hi there,

Once again I'm sorry for the delay in my follow up but time is a precious commodity when you're dealing with deadlines  ;)  I'm sure you know how it is!

It seems that all of the issues I had with the disappearing objects was related to corrupted files in the 3ds Max or Microsoft .NET installs. Or maybe even in some of my 3ds Max files themselves. I have done some re-installs and cleanup and everything seems to work fine now! I'm sorry for the confusion!

Kind regards
John

Don't worry John, i know what it means to be under pressure for a deadline. I'm glad that the problem is solved. ;)
