Hi,
When you can a ForestPack object in the viewports, if not disable you have to pick the distribution result to select the object and access its properties.
When you disable it (Display/Disable Object), the distribution isn't visible anymore (right), and the Forest object appear with its orange icon at the center pivot.
Could we have this icon always visible, even when the Forest object isn't disabled ? Or is there ever a way to get this bahevior, maxscript or not ?
Thanks

Hi,
The F icon is shown automatically (currently, there's no way how to override it) only when there is no item to show (because of being disabled, not using any item, having distribution issues).
Actually, the most efficient way would be to use the Forest Lister (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Forest+Lister) to access several of properties easily. Hope that helps.
Best regadrs,

Well, we have done our own lister for options we need, but we organize scenes due to lot of different surfaces, plants and distribution. We then place each Forest aside its plants, independently of where is its surface. So it would really help to have a way to override this option and always show the helper/F icon.

Is there any update on implementing an override? It's not very practical to just use the Forest Lister.

I would also like to have this option. Sometimes you have overlapping FP objects which can be very difficult to select in the viewport. Using the lister is an extra step I would like to avoid.
"Show FP icon in viewport" under the Display tab would be great.

Added to the next update.

Cool! Thanks a lot!

Hi, thanks for including this option
Could we have another option to display the name of the Forest Object too so we can identify it better, similar to Vraylights, where you can display its name

Sure. We'll add it.

Hi, something that I didnt notice is that with the new Icon system if I move the Icon, the FP object moves too and theres no way to place it again (only undo)
Is there a way that FP icon and FP objects are locked or have a separate control?

Hi, once you move the icon, use Display->Update. That rebuilds the Forest object at the correct position.

Thanks for the quick reply, maybe I didnt explain myself correctly, what I meant is that, if I move the FP icon, the FP object moves too, I dont want to move the FP object.
Im using paint area and this doesnt recover the "original" position with the "update" button, it only redraws the scatter objects, so I need to place it where it was before, in order to recover the objects in the correct position, theres no chance to move these icons to keep them in a "safe place".

I'm afraid there is not a way to mode only the FP icon. For Max, both the Forest object and icon are the same thing.
Regarding Paint areas, unfortunately it's not possible to recover their position with the Update button.
Splines are different because there is an external object (the spline), which can be used as reference.
But you could do this:
- Use 'Convert to Spline' to transform the Paint area into a Spline.
- Move the Forest object.
- Use Display->Rebuild.
- Use 'Convert to Paint' to convert the Spline area to Paint.
