Please see image below.
How can I get rid of the tiling if the density is high?
Is there a procedural random function instead of an image?

Using 3ds max 2020 and Forest 6.2.2

Hi

You have many options how to scatter on large areas and fix tiling that comes from default distribution modes.

1. Add Random translation per item using Transform Rollout:

2. Use custom procedural map, as You asked.

3. Use particle flow as distribution:

And probably some other methods to fit Your needs.

Anyway I would recommend You watching this tutorial which explains ForestPack Distribution settings and shares many useful tips.

Thank you.
I can't help to wonder why these options are not the default if they seem to work better than images.

Images provide many quick presets from man made grids to natural scattering to clumps and streaks etc... without the need to go to material editor to fiddle with parameters.

Bitmaps are fantastic because you just need to remember a few variations and know exactly what you will achieve. In addition, 99% is enough with just prepared bitmaps.
