Animated Alembic Characters In Forest Pro
« on: May 15, 2019, 09:21:32 PM »
I'm assuming this is not possible to use an Alembic mesh from say 3dpeople and add that as a forest object.
We then tried to convert it to an animated proxy.  The proxy has the animation but it doesn't transfer over to forest pack.
Can this be done?
We set the distribution mode to path and nothing happend.
We also distributed it on a surface and that also did not work.

Ideally we'd like to use the Alembic files but realize its probably not possible.  Vray proxy captures the animation but the proxy's are very large.

Any Ideas?

Hi,

Well, as mentioned in this related post:
Quote
"... the Forest Pack plug-in supports any format that can generate a mesh (can be animated) in 3ds Max (including Alembic and others).

The Playback Type should be set to Original Range within the Alembic Object and the first frame has to contain some geometry so Forest Pack can generate properly the information needed for its evaluations.

Just let me mention, that time ago, there was an issue reported with the VRayProxy object (linked to the way how the Alembic format is supported) and depending on the V-Ray version used, there might be differences in its support. To avoid similar troubles, I would suggest you load it into your scene as an Alembic Object (unless there is a special reason for using the VRayProxy object to import it)."

If possible, please feel free to send us your scene and we'll check it here. Any additional info is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
