Title: Animated trees and plants quick question
Post by: TO4398 on December 03, 2017, 03:00:20 PM
Hello dear and always helpful forum members. I am doing currently an animation in Corona where I need to show moving animated plants on a wall covered with grass/bushes and other plants. I am using growfx to animate the plants and Forest pack newest version to cover the wall with the plant objects. So my question which of the following 3 routes that I can use will give me better/faster render performance and less memory usage.

1. Using straight growfx animated model as the forest object

2. Converting the growfx animated model to a corona animated proxy

3. Using point cache modifier on collapsed growfx model (edit mesh)

I have been doing some tests so far with corona proxy and works good but just wanted to hear from someone with experience regarding this matter since I don't really have time to test all 3 routes due to deadlines. Again I am very grateful for all the help I have been getting so far on this forum.

Best,
Sofia

Hi Sofia,

In terms of memory usage there isn't much in it, but if your GrowFX models takes a little while to evaluate and build you might find it's quicker to bake the animation to a proxy or use a point cache as you suggest to avoid having to recalculate the mesh at each frame. You can see some notes on the advantages and disadvantages of using proxies in this FAQ entry: https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/should-i-use-meshes-or-proxies-with-forest-in-v-ray/

I hope that helps,

All the best,

Paul
