Title: Animated VrayProxy for Crowd
Post by: Guillermo Leal on April 10, 2014, 05:00:49 PM
I need to make a crowd for a stadium. i have several animated 3d peoples as vrayproxies 400 frames each, i'm trying the animation future in forest pro and no matter which of the options i choose it seems to pick either the first or last frame of the animation. what i want is to pick randomly from the 400 frames on each model. what would be the best way to achieve that?

thanks,
Guillermo Leal.

Hi Guillermo,

The animation settings for randomising samples work using two parameters. Count is the number of sample points to take from the timeline up to maximum of 20, and Time Offset which is the number of frames between each sample. For a 400 frame animation I would use 20 for each parameter, giving you sample starting points at 0,20,40,60,80 ... and on.

Hope that helps,

Kind regards,

Paul,

another question, what if i want to use frames from 50 - 250 for example?

i wish we had the option to just specify a range of frames that we want to use, that would be very helpful. for example i can have a long animated proxy where the model seats, talks, waves, etc. then depending on were the crowd is i can just specify a range of frames to use per forest object.

Hi Guillermo,

Thanks for the feedback. The Random samples function uses the range defined by the 3DS Max timeline so it is possible to limit the animation to a specified range by change the Timeline's start and end points. Of course this would affect all the forest objects in the scene.

We've added your suggestion of being able to limit the animation range per forest object to our wish list, in theory it should be possible. We'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Paul
