Can someone please tell me if I'm doing something wrong here?
I have added a library grass preset to a surface, I replaced the default material on the forest object with a Vray material that has 'forst color' in the diffuse slot. My setting for that map are attached. The problem I have is that I can't get the shading to apply as 'by element' rather than 'by object' I changed the bitmap to a checker pattern in order to test the result, and moving the object / element slider to either side produces the same result. As I understand it, moving the slider to 'element' should produce crisper edges, applying the colour of the map to the individual elements, it appears to still be doing it to each whole mesh still, as can been seem in the two test renders below.
I'm using Forest Pro 4.4.1

This image demonstrates my point a bit more clearly. The scattered object is an editable poly with 10 elements. The objects appear to take shading for the whole object rather than individual elements.

Hi,
I'm afraid, that's the limitation of this mode - as mentioned in our on-line reference guide (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Forest+Color#ForestColor-Tint): ""Get color from map > As Texture on Surface" works only at Item level, it's not compatible with tint by Element."
Hope that clears it up, but in case of any further question or doubt, please don't hesitate to contact us. Have a great day.
Best regards,

Ok, thanks, I hadn't seen that.

Hi Michal,
I've just started using FP but I've run through the same problem with multiscatter quite sometime ago. Is it too hard to implement? That would be pretty neat. And would be a suggested workaround for that?

Hi Eugenio,
Well, we've already done some development & testing of this feature on "Elements", but we were not satisfied with the overall performance - it was very resource demanding solution. We don't discard it completely - might be we find a feasible way to implement it in future releases. Thanks for your comprehension.

Thanks a lot for the answer Michal. I fully comprehend when something is not trivial to implement. In fact, when I know the reason something is not implemented it eases the stress of finding workarounds.

Hi,
You might find the workaround described in this post helps.

Instead of Forest Colour you can use a bitmap using World Space coordinate, it will tint individual elements (actually it projects the map so you can end up with multi-coloured elements but for most uses this works)
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.
Many Thanks,
Paul
