Title: Archive 3DS Max w/Forest Pack
Post by: MU3245 on February 01, 2017, 04:14:58 PM
When creating forest objects I choose the xref option versus merge into scene.

What happens when I use the 3DS Max archive function to remove a completed project from my system and archive it? DOes the forest Library need to be kept the same for this archived project to be restored in the future?

Is there a way, is it recommended,  to merge all the forest objects before archiving?

General question is what is best practice for archiving from 3DS Max. Thanks!

Hi,

That's not necessary - all used references will be archived too and there is no need to merge these objects. The same applies to assets used by Forest.

A general recommendation would be (as also all texture paths will be stored) to o avoid duplicate files & keep the folder structure organized (tools like the Resource Collector (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-7109A5FC-94E9-4B7A-A46E-38637CDDCE3B-htm.html) utility might be helpful).

Best regards,
