Assigning custom material to FP layered laws
« on: April 30, 2022, 05:09:09 PM »
Hi,

Just a quick check regarding material assignment workflow.

I've been used to just selecting the forestpack object and then assigning the material from the slate editor. However, it seems this no longer works and I have to drag the material connector to the material button in the FP geometry rollout. I remember my collegue mentioning something similar a while back as he was also having issues.

Is this correct or am I missing something?

Max 2021 / Vray 5.2.2 / FP 7.3.1

Hi,

Any overrides of the "auto-material" assigned to the Forest object aren't recommendable, because Forest keeps references to its source materials. Instead, you should modify the material linked to that item - Custom Object(s) - Material - any changes made this way, will be projected safely to the Forest's "auto material". Also, if preferable, without having any material assigned under Forest's Geometry > Material, the Forest object is getting the material directly from the Custom Object(s). I hope that clears it up.

Best regards,

Hi Michal,

Thanks for confirming the workflow. The way you describe was how I ended up doing it so that's good.
