Camera limit visibility affect viewport performance...
« on: February 20, 2019, 04:20:34 PM »
Hi

Just found problem in my scene with FP objects. Camera limit visibility affect viewport performance. After I struggle with 0.5fps viewport I start looking for issue. After removing in all FP objects limit camera visibility the viewport performace come back to normal up to 50fps. I don't know is this problem with my scene, hardware or anything else - just want to share it and know your thoughts.

I attached two screen shots with camera limit visibility enabled in only one FP (9fps) object and with camera limit visibility disabled in all FP objects (57fps).

FP ver 6.1.2
GTX 1070 8GB
CPU i7-3930K @ 4.2GHz
RAM 64GB

thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,

Besides checking your scene, i must add that Camera Limit not always improves the performance, specially with recent Max versions.
It depends of many factors, as the relation between the number total of items and removed by clipping, size of the distribution, etc.

Please note when Camera Limit is enabled, the Forest object must be rebuilt when camera moves.
Depending of the build time, that may be worse than displaying all items at viewport.

For this reason, in recent Forest versions, the plugin doesn't suggest to enable Camera Limit by default, as in older releases.
Depending of the scene, you should evaluate if this feature adds some benefit, or a performance hit.

By the way, to unlink Forest from the Camera completely, it's necessary to change all these parameters:

1) Turn off "Limit to Visibility".
2) Turn off "Auto assign to active view".
3) Click Camera->Clear, to remove the current Camera, if any.

I hope that helps.

After whole day I discovered this ;) I just want to share this with you.

The scene is rather large and contain many of the FP objects and linking camera to only one FP object cost 5 times slower viewport performance. Just imagine viewport performance when more FP object where linked to the camera - 0.5 fps ;)
