something inside the pipe
« on: April 25, 2014, 11:31:22 AM »
Let's say I want to put small stones inside the water pipe. I'm having problems achieving such thing. It's working with uv mode but I need to be able to use areas to point where I want stones and where I do not.

Hi,

There are several ways how to control Distribution areas using UV Surface Mode. In Distribution Map roll-out you can assign any Map to define distribution areas. Please check attached screenshot showing effect of checker map over your surface. So, you can for example unwrap your surface mapping and prepare a texture that'll suit your needs.

Another possible way is to use Vertex Color map and paint over your surface using Vertex Paint modifier. In this case you should add some vertexes to your model. Attaching an example showing it with combination of Forest Pack Pro I did some time ago testing it.

Hope this helps you ;)

Kind regards,

ok I guess if there's now way to use standard mode and only UV I will have to paint the map. I wanted to use default distribution maps form forest and just add splines to control where I want stones. Thanks Michal

You're welcome. Anyway, in your case I can see another workaround cheating UV mode limitations.

By splitting the pipe into two objects you can use for scattering on the bottom part default XY mode and this way you can have control of distribution areas using splines / objects / Forest objects under Areas tab. Check the screenshot attached. Maybe this workflow will work for you ...

hmmm, what do you mean by splitting the pipe? I already have nonrenderable object just for forest surface and axy isn't working. Basically this is what I want I only want stones inside the pipe

In my case I used Slice modifier to Remove Top part and then did a copy of the object where Slice modifier is set Remove Bottom. By Detach having selected unwanted faces inside of Edit Poly you can archive the same maybe easier.
