Big trouble with Color tint, "as texture on surface"

I have a very hard time getting the tint map working correct. All I want is to have a smoke/noise tint over my forest grass field, so that I can get nice variations of green throughout the entire lawn. I have tested:
a) using a uvw map on the surface, with the same channel as the noise map is set to.
b) not using a uvw map on the surface
Gives same result

c) Setting it in the forest rollout
d) Setting it in the forest material
Gives same result.

e) Changing the noise map size.

Seems like there are some variations going on, but I have had no luck in changing the size.

I am lost now. Maybe I could upload the scene so that you can fix it for me and help me with the solution?
I also want to be able to save this forest in a preset, so that next time I can just use the preset and get the same sized tinting by the map.
