Title: billboard shadows in xref scene
Post by: DK6550 on August 19, 2011, 12:01:14 AM
My billboards are in a seperate file that i xref scene into each view file of my project. How do i assign a light for the shadow when each view file has its own light (sun) and camera? The lighting is not in any of the xref scenes but in each different view file (I'm doing camera matching to background images of the site) I'm using Vray for my renderer.
Thanks.

When objects are inside of a XRef, is not possible to assign references to elements belonging to main scene, this is a general limitation of XRefs. If you need to link cameras or lights to a object forest, should do a merge of the XRef record, however this could be a problem if you need to merge also the inclusion splines or terrains. Another solution is to use a scene settings where Forest doesn't reference any light or camera.

If you could send us a reduced set of your xref scenes (the minimun objects for see the problem), we could study it and suggest you the best way to include Forest in your workflow.

Fortunately one of your statements is incorrect. Forest billboards in an xref do automatically respond to the camera of the main file and turn to face the camera. I guess my only solution is to create a single billboard file and then save it out for each view and then add the light to each saved view billboard file...meaning i have a billboard file for each view file.
