This happens a lot. I have to close MAX and open the scene again - nothing else, and it works.

Hi Bobby,

I'm sorry to hear that you're facing this issue. It seems that for some reason, paths to ForestPack's assets (such as the full.bmp Distribution Map) are missing or not properly mapped in your 3ds Max configuration. You can access the configuration by going to Customize - Configure User Paths - External files, and the relevant information is stored in the 3dsmax.ini file. By default, the .ini file is located here:

C:\Users\<yourUsername>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\<maxversion>\ENU\3dsmax.ini

You don't need to manually configure these paths. When ForestPack is loaded, it checks if the paths exist, and if not, it can add them automatically (a warning message will be displayed).

If you previously checked the Do not show this message again checkbox to disable the pop-up window, you can revert it to its default value (to show the pop-up) by setting checkTexturePaths = 1 in the forestpack.ini configuration file. By default, this file is located here:

C:\Users\<yourUsername>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\<maxversion>\ENU\en-US\plugcfg

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

The path is set in MAX, and the checkTexturePaths = 1 is correct. As I mentioned, it happens occasionally, and rebooting MAX resolves the issue.

If it's listed under the [BitmapDirs] section of the 3dsmax.ini configuration file, it's possible that 3ds Max isn't correctly loading the user profile for some reason.

Please, try "resetting" the 3ds Max by "renaming" your User files. To temporarily remove the user profile:
  • Ensure that 3ds Max is not running.
  • Navigate to the following path: C:\Users\yourUsername\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\your3dsMaxversion - 64bit\ENU
  • Rename the ENU folder to ENU_Old.
When 3ds Max is launched, a new ENU folder will be created. If the issue has not been resolved, you can revert to the previous settings by deleting the new ENU folder and renaming the old one back to what it was.

Thanks in advance for any additional comments you can share with us or the user community, in case other users encounter similar issues.

Best regards,
