Title: Boundary checking- Edge mode on (partially) stacked surface?
Post by: ritoo on January 20, 2025, 02:53:10 pm
Is there a way to make the subject work?

Hi,

Could you please specify the versions of your software configuration, including 3ds Max, the renderer, and Forest Pack? Additionally, do you manage these planes as separate objects or as a single object? Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Latest FP (common grass 01 (large) preset is shown on the picture above) , any vray - gpu\cpu\6\7, max 23\25. It could be a single surface or multiple ones (via forest set or straight) - edge cutting won't work on partially stacked geo. Can't you reproduce the issue?

The problem  is not stacked surface per se but UV mode which does not support edge cutting (even on not stacked surfaces)
I need UV mode instead of XY because its not being scattered in overlapping areas
P.S. BTW I noticed Surf.Mat.ID in Areas rollout feature works only in XY mode
P.P.S. The only workaround in my situation that I found is using multiple surfaces in XY mode.

So my humble request is please make edge work in UV mode.

Thank you for your prompt reply. As you mentioned, the Edge Boundary Checking mode does have some limitations - we’ll look into ways to improve it for these scenarios.

Best regards,
