Title: Certain FPP object preventing network rendering.
Post by: MN4869 on October 03, 2013, 07:39:59 AM
I have a large scene that I'm troubleshooting as will not render with back burner. I don't think memory is an issue, my slaves have 16GB and it barely goes past 5GB even with all xrefs on.

All itoo objects are in this scene, xrefs are not related and are off.
Trial as error I first turned all itoo layers off and it renders to backburner no problem.

All railclone objects on - renders fine
All FPP on - doesnt render

To cut to he chase, I put all Forest objects on unique layers and rendered individually. I only have one FPP object that will render via back burner.

I then tried to troubleshoot a problem object.

It still won't render even with 30 viewport items, nor if set to mesh instead of automatic. I then went back to the 3300 item version, instanciate to standalone - and it renders fine. I've not tried for the whole scene.

I only trouble shooted the rocks, grasses also won't render.

Any ideas?

I'm using max 2013, itoo 4.0.3, vray 2.45.01

I'm wondering whether this may be a point to delete all of my Forest objects and start again. I'd prefer not to.

On a positive note - I've learnt some more cool things with itoo the last few days. Definitely some great features.

Thanks

Dave

Please, try to reproduce the problem in a stripped scene (including only Forest and essential objects) and send it to support@itoosoft.com.

Does it work rendering locally (no backburner) ?

Locally renders fine.

I've been having intermittent DBR problems where it generally won't render most of the time - I'm wondering of this is the cause. Ill try and organize a scene file, and hook up to my mobile phone.  Thanks

So I think I've found the problem.

I deleted the one rock object that rendered ok before and my scene rendered.

It didnt render if I only turned it's layer off.

I turned it back on and then disabled the 'exclude forest object' for all other visible objects that were referencing to this. It renders even with DBR.

So I think that the problem is either:

a) Corruption with my rock geometry/materials
b) the exclude forest option
c) corruption somewhere else in the scene

Any suggestions on what I could trouble shoot next.

Also I've not enabled my grass objects yet.

Do you use proxies stored in network shares ? If so, i would try using local meshes... just to be sure it's not a random issue due to the proxy loading.

Sorry I don't understand. Everything is pointing at a shared drive in my workstation. Proxies are all handled by itoo.

Thanks

Yes, i mean you use a standard mesh as Custom Object, instead a proxy. The idea is that render nodes have not to load proxies from a remote location, and all geometry is included with the scene.

Proxies loaded remotely from a network share are a common cause of problems, because they mail fail (randomly) if there is some network issue.

So you mean change from 'automatic' to 'mesh'?

I tried that once today, but maybe I needed to do for all of them.

I think I just did one forest object and that was still referencing the problem onject beong used as 'forest exclude'. Ill have another crack at it tomorrow...

No, don't change "automatic" to "mesh". This option is used only for very specific cases. For VRay use always "automatic" mode.

What type of objects have you assigned in the Geometry rollout: vray proxies or standard objects ? If you use proxies, i suggest changing them by standard meshes.

Hi, yes I've just used regular meshes for everything.

I thought itoo did all the hard work.

I guess you'd only add pre-made proxies if you had already created them if you wanted to manuals place them?

Yes, really it's not necessary to use proxies with Forest. I ask it because some customers use them yet.

In this case, we should need the scene to check it here. Anyway, it's strange that fails only with DBR. For Forest there is not difference between local or network render.

Thanks for the scene. We have identified and fixed the problem: there was a potential bug using exclusion areas from a Forest on Custom Edit mode. It could fail more frequently using network rendering.

I just send you a custom patch by e-mail.
