Striped lawn following UV of surface
« on: August 24, 2022, 01:38:38 PM »
Hi

I'm following this video to create a striped lawn on a really big estate.

https://youtu.be/_0MeIRhEQI4?t=800

The grass will go in different striped directions for different areas on this job

Is there any way to have the stripes follow the direction of the gradient on the surface?  This will also set the width of the stripes too.

Currently the width and direction are controlled by the gradient.  There'd be more control if it was controlled by the mapping on the surface.

Thanks

Video is still uploading so may be low quality - what I don't show is changing the width using the tiling in the gradient

Actually - changing the direction of the gradient (W) changes the direction of the stripes but the grass always points in the same direction

Hi - the easiest way to achieve that is probably by just rotating the whole Forest Pack object and then clicking on Update.

(Note gradient map is in Planar from World XYZ mode)

I hope that helps,

Hi

Ok, thanks I'll take a look.

This vid from 2012 seems to be using the process I was hoping to use.

So not sure if anything's changed because I also can't get that to work properly.
