Title: Clean grass border edges for a mesh surface ???
Post by: TM3598 on February 10, 2013, 12:32:17 AM
Gotten to that same point again with FPP, it's late, been working on this image all day and mostly to get to grips with FPP.........

I have a landscape that is nearly all grass in front of a hotel that needs a path through that grass leading to the hotel.

I need straight, neat grass edges, and using the paint brush to exclude, doesn't cut it (no pun intended).

My grass isn't on a flat plain, it's on an undulating mesh.

How can I achieve that clean grass border ??

I know there is a message "Grass Problem with curb" but I don't understand how to do it - I'm quite new to all of this (yes I have a nice looking grass except for the edges !).

Thanks :)

Unfortunately there is not an easy solution for this problem:

Individual blades are right for small areas and cutted edges, but not for large areas (because the high number of elements generated), and clumps are fine for large surfaces, but not for clean edges. As you can see in the Forest Pro for lawn (http://www.itoosoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=1105.0) post, there are two options:

a) Adjust the radius of the clump, to get the best balance between size/edges.
b) Combine both elements, using two separate Forest objects or two areas (there are a couple of sample scenes in the post).

Note: there are not problems using option b) on uneven surfaces, but it is necessary to create an extra spline for the falloff. This issue is discussed at the end of the above post.

Please, tell me what you don't understand exactly (these are advanced techniques, i now).

Thanks Carlos for you continued patience and advice.

I now understand very well how to do what I need to do in FPP and LOVE IT !!!!

It is an amazing product, once you know what to do, where to look and how to APPROACH your modelling beforehand (so it needs a bit more knowledge of how to do things using 3DS Max than I was previously capable of), it's actually quite simple.

Thank you for your patience with me and my apologies for being rude and frustrated, my only excuse is that I was tired and fed up !

:)

Thank you for using our software, i'm glad that you enjoy it. :)

I understand some concepts can be tricky when starting out, we will continue working in the documentation and tutorials to make it easier. In fact, we have added to the to-do list a specific tutorial about edged grass.
