Title: Color tint problem forest pro 4.2.2
Post by: karresenbrands on November 24, 2015, 02:59:14 PM
Hi everyone,

At the end of 2013 I did an animation for one of our projects with really simple tree (low LOD canopy).
I wanted to reuse this tree for a new project but somehow color tint is not working as it used to.

Before I used color tint with a gradient on the forest object and a fully transparent material with a fog color.
Back then I used forestpackpro 4.1.2 but now I'm using 4.2.2.
Max is version 2014 and Vray changed from 2.4 to 3.0.
When I try to reproduce the result, somehow the color tint has no effect on the fog color (see attachments).
Even when I apply a Forest Color map to the fog color slot in the vray material nothing happens.
Only when I put a Forest Color map to the diffuse slot and lessen the refraction I get some results but not the desired one....
Can someone please help?

Hi,

Well, as mentioned in this related "VRay fog compatibility (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=2337.msg8818#msg8818)" post:

I´m afraid, that in actual V-Ray versions, there is no workaround for this. In case of VRay's Fog color the shader doesn't get the base object information, so the Forest Color can't be evaluated. Not sure, if VRayMtl is designed like that by some technical limitation, or it's bug.

I would suggest to use the Refract map for these purposes.

Best regards,

Hi Michal,

Thx for the reply, I missed that topic.
I think I will write to the guys at Chaosgroup to see if it's a bug or discarded feature.
I will play with the Forest Color map in the refraction slot.
Getting some funny results now, probably needs some tweaking to make it look right :)
