Equivalent to Forest color map with non-forest objects
« on: February 27, 2019, 09:28:18 PM »
Does anyone know if the forest color map will work on non forest objects? Specifically a load of instances that have their own diffuse map already, but I was hoping to overlay another colour map to randomise between the instances like with the tint mode on forest color 'get colour from map'?

Hi,

As mentioned in this "Replace forest color map / instanciate" tightly related post on our forum:

"Well, at present the Forest Color map only works with objects that are a part of a Forest Pack object.

Depending on render engine used, you might find useful V-Ray's VRayMultiSubTex map - using the Random by Node handle mode / Corona's CoronaMultiTex map - the Instance mode or any third-party plug-ins for similar purposes like CG Source's MultiTexture map (free) or VizPark's Crossmap (paid)."

Once such object will be handled within the Forest Pack plug-in, the Forest Color map will work as supposed.

Let me add, that for these purposes (specially when having multiple objects) you may find useful the ObjectsToForest / InstancesToForest script - and this way you'll have access to many Forest Pack tools (as the Forest Color and others).

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Thanks, I'd not come across crossmap, that looks handy.

Those scripts look good too.
