Title: convert to paint area bugged?
Post by: Jens-a on September 28, 2021, 10:43:43 AM
Hi I'm running FP pro 7.1.2 on max 2020.

I just tried to convert a spline area to a brush area via the button in the area tab roll out.

The scattered objects looks the same, but if I then try to edit that converted brushed area with the brush tool, all items disappear and it's treated like a brand new brush area.

I don't remember FP acting like this. Normally I would be able to convert a splined area to brush area and then just continue to use brush tools to add/remove scattered items to that area.

Thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry to hear you're facing that issue. I can't currently reproduce the issue here on a simplified scene - it would appear to work as expected. Are you able to send us one of the problematic scenes (you can strip out all uneccesary objects) so that we can better identify the cause. If you'd rather not post it publically, please feel free to email it to helpdesk@itoosoft.com using wetransfer or similar,

Many thanks,
Paul

Hi Poul, thanks for the quick reply. I'll try and reduce the scene and send to you later today.

Thanks for the file, that really helped to clarify things.

I see you are trying to convert an open spline to a paint area. As far as I know, that has never been possible in Forest Pack (I tested in 6.31 and 7.12) but I can see that it would be useful. I'll pass it on to our developers to see if it can be implemented for a future version.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention,
Paul

ahh okay, that makes sense! But yes, it would be really handy for when we create paths on landscapes via open splines and then want to add to them. As of now we have to create an extra paint area on top, so it's not that bad, but it's more clutter and setup time if we have some Z offset on the open spline area and use that same spline for other FP objects.

Looking forward to it maybe becoming a feature in the future ;) Thanks for quick help and great customer service once again Poul. You guys definitely set the bar!
