« on: March 30, 2020, 05:14:59 PM »
Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to install the maintenance patches for rc and fp, with an expired license.

Is this regulation going to change maybe in the future?

Because I get that there is the need to get paid updates for new big releases, with new features. But I dont really get why you would have to pay for bugfixes, which "in best case" shouldnt be there in the first place.

In our particular case, we got 2 I say license packs bought with multiple licenses on each, which differ about 1/2 year in active license. When RC4 got released we renewed the expired license pack and got around 1-2 weeks runtime left on the other pack. So we upgraded to the new release. We then found bugs in the RC 4.1.0 release with scene crashing/not loading when there is no free license available (that wasnt the case with the old rc3 release). I wrote that into the forum got some tips but didnt work out, and no further answer. Got the hope that a bugfix release would fix that issue. But now I need to pay for a possible bugfix, which wasnt there in the older release. We really love your products and are happy to support you with renewing our licenses regulary or buying new licenses as needed, but paying for bugfixes is not a customer friendly way to go.

It would be great if you could seperate bufix releases from feature releases.

No, i'm sorry. Our policy about maintenance and updates is not going to change.

We set this policy some time ago, because it was a pain to maintenance several branches of the code.
In that scenery, we should apply each bugfix manually to multiple code branches (one for each major plugin version). Also, multiply it for all 3DS Max versions, V-Ray, etc.

Instead, now we can handle a single branch of the code for each plugin. This is much more manageable and efficient, and may focus our effort on improving the product.

Hmm, this is very sad to hear. Then I can just hope that new versions/updates dont have any weird bugs when we update to newer releases.

We do test our releases but some bugs still escape.
If You find them, let as know. We can only fix them if they are reported.
