Creating objects along a path
« on: May 30, 2013, 01:22:18 PM »
Hello,
we are trying to use the creation tools option of distributing objects along a path to position houses for a proposed development.
We could have perhaps 50-100 similar house types so doing this manually is a bit tedious.
We would like to draw a polyline in autocad over the architect's plan layout -please see attached image which describes what we are trying to do.

At the moment we can create the house we need by drawing a points at the end-midpoint-end of each each house facade. We then position pivot point for the house model at the corresponding midpoint on the facade and by selecting the polyline as shown we get the houses distributed at each vertex.
So we have the houses we need at the midpoint vertex for each house footprint and two house we do not want at each of the end vertices.

Without the two end point vertices on either side of the midpoint, we would not get the correct rotation of the object (the house in our case)

Question: is there a way we could specify that only every nth vertex be used (in our case every 3rd) ?

Could this feature be incorporated into the software?

Hope you can help

We would add such feature, but requires time and probably there are easier methods to get it.

What about using Creation Tools->Reference->Face Centers ?
Just draw a triangle for each house (using splines or imported from ACAD), attach them, convert to a mesh and use it as reference:

Or alternatively, RailClone can do this job easily. If the surface is flat, you can use the free Lite version.

Thanks iToo !!
with a little bit of work getting the alignment / pivot points correctly matched that is exactly what we need !!
Super
Thanks
