Custom Edit Geometry Scaling Problem
« on: December 25, 2017, 11:53:20 AM »
Hi,
I just tried custom edit mode to scatter geometry to follow along the path.
created 2 spheres, converted then to edit poly, resetted their pivots so that they are at the bottom of the geometry and then resetted thier xform and converted then again to edit poly.
Created a line and scattered the 2 spheres using FPP along the line using custom edit mode, but as soon as i did that the spheres got scaled along the z-axis.
I think either i am doing something wrong or there is some setting that i missed.
please help because after getting this file right i am going to apply the same technique to one of my projects.

Note : sphere are just for reference i will be using archmodel trees for scattering along the path

Attached is the image and the max file for reference...(.max file is 3dsmax 2015 version and vray 3.60.03 and FPP 5.4.1)
Thanks
Amit.

Hi,

That's caused by the unequal Forest object scale inherited from the "Line001" (attaching screen-shot). By creating the Forest object directly in the Custom Edit mode you'll avoid inheriting it. Also, applying the Reset XForm > Reset Selected utility over the "Line001" would be the recommendable way in case of the Generate mode usage. Please find attached the modified scene. Hope that helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply and the solution, but i didnt get the following "By creating the Forest object directly in the Custom Edit mode you'll avoid inheriting it".
before going to custom edit mode we should atleast add the custom objects in the geometry list first and then go to custom edit right... if i am wrong here then do correct me
Thanks
Amit Gedia.

Hi Amit,

You're welcome. Glad to hear, that it helped. Currently, there are two ways of creating the Forest object - the Generate mode by selecting a "base object" (a spline / a surface) or the Custom Edit mode. Attaching screen-shot.
