Title: Custom Rug Texture (Redshift / 3ds Max 2020)
Post by: cjwidd on February 16, 2022, 06:24:51 AM
Cross-post (https://redshift.maxon.net/topic/41083/forest-pack-custom-rug-texture) from Redshift forums, asking the same question here:

Trying to implement rug shading using Redshift and Forest Pack (Forest Pro 7.1.1)

For example, here is a carpet with a patterned design, e.g. orange, teal, and red shapes, etc. (see attached).

To do this in Forest Pack we would download a bitmap of the pattern and use a 'Forest Color Map' to shade the surface of the forest object, accordingly.

Is this possible with Redshift v3.0.65 / 3ds Max 2020?

Hi,

I'm afraid Forest Color isn't currently supported by Redshift. I'm not a Redshift expert, but if the renderer has an equivalent to Max's  Planar from World XYZ mapping coordinate system, then that could work as a substitute. I've used this in the past for renderers that don't support Forest Color. I prefer to use real-world map size and then in that way you can easily position the texture using the bitmap map's Size and Offset parameters.

To help get an approximate position I also find the Surface's X position minus half its X size gives me a good starting point for the Width > Offset value, and a Y Position minus half the surfaces's Y Size works for the Height > Offset.

I hope that helps.

Many thanks!
