Density from a map
« on: June 17, 2017, 01:03:22 PM »
Hi,

so it has come that time of the year again, when I unfortunately have to use ForestPack on the project, and again, trivial things take ridiculous amount of effort to accomplish.

Right now I am stuck with finding a way to drive density of instancing with a map. When plugging bitmap into map slot of distribution map, it works only as boolean, with color threshold defined by a threshold value. What I need to achieve is density probability driven by a map, so that the darker the value on a bitmap is, the lower is the probability of instance being created at that place. I considered it to be a trivial thing, even CoronaScatter can do it, but in ForestPack, I just can not find any way, so any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, this is on our wish list for a future release. I'm the meantime you might find this thread helpful : https://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=3932.msg15345#msg15345

It describes how this can be achieved using max maps or using a provided substance map.

I hope that helps.

All the best,

Paul

Yeah, I kind of expected this very simple thing will become very complicated, as usually. Thanks anyways :)
