Is it possible to use a grayscale image to control the density of the distribution map in a non-binary fashion, where white has full grid density, light gray is mostly dense, mid-gray is a 50% chance of having an object, dark gray is a 25% chance, black is zero chance of having a geometry placed in that position?
Currently, it does not seem like this is so. Plugging in a grayscale bitmap or a Gradient Ramp from 3dsmax's material editor, it seems like FP forces the map to a threshold point of either white or black even though you can control the threshold. So 40% gray was still either totally on or off. To get what I wanted, I had to make a grayscale map in Photoshop, then convert it to a black-white bitmap via dithering. Only then did FP really "blend" out the density of objects.
Could you add an internal grayscale/ dithering function if it's not present yet?
Thanks,
Matt

In ForestPackPro 6 there will be possibility to use Particles to drive ForestPack. Using particles it is possible to achieve effect You are describing:

Now You can add noise Yourself to distribution map:

Also in Forest 6 we included an Effect to control density by a map, independently of the Distribution map:
