License issues
« on: May 07, 2012, 02:28:02 PM »
Hi,

We're experiencing some troubles with licenses.

We have 2 network licenses. At first they were both loaded and working, but today there's only one license loaded. Even though the details still says we have 2. How come? And how can we get both loaded again. We tried to restart the license manager but didn't help.

Another problem is about releasing those licenses. It says somewhere there should be a timer ( 10min default) but that doesn t work either. Kicking or closing 3dsmax is the only option it seems. Is that normal? Isn t there a more convenient way to have those licenses floating around? Where are the settings to change the timer?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

Didier

Check the "Computers" tab, to see what machine is grabbing the license. If the machine has not any 3dsmax session opened, check for background 3dsmax.exe processes that could be still running or hanged. Check also for antivirus or internet security programs that could be blocking the access to the license server.

If 3dsmax is shuttled down properly the license is freed immediately, so should be not necessary to change the timeout settings.  However you can change the default settings in this registry key:

64 bit systems:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Itoo Software\License Server]
"leaseTime"=dword:00000090

32 bit systems:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Itoo Software\License Server]
"leaseTime"=dword:00000090

Thanks for the quick reply yuv

Only one computer shows up in the computers tab, and still when another workstation try to use forest pro it gets the no license available message. However we just tried with a third computer to grab a license and it works. So we now using both. Seems like the problem is linked to a specific workstation here..

And indeed when we close 3dsmax it releases the license. But I thought that was not needed to close max. I thought that the license is used to create and edit forest objects and when u not editing or creating it releases the license after x minutes. Apparently that didn t work here at first.

Thanks for the information on the timer. We'll keep experimenting to find out the best way to manage those floating licenses.

Cheers
