objects just near area exclude spline?
« on: October 07, 2011, 05:54:13 PM »
is it possible to achieve effect of having objects only scattered near exclusion spline like in the pic below (the circled green, but without the ones circled in red?  the violet rings are exclusion splines.

i tried using curve in area settings but looks like it stops working above the distance threshold and defaults to 100% density instead of % set on the left side of the curve (the density falloff curve in area settings) which should be the intuitional behavior id say :)

No, it is not possible to achieve this effect using the Exclude spline. It is designed to work with decreasing falloff curves, not backwards. We will look it is possible to remove this limitation for next versions.

In this case, you should use two nested circles and turn on the Include falloff, as shown in the image.

yeah, but its making me do one extra step and its not alwyas easy to do as shapes are all kinds of thing not only circles :) any chance for a hotfix with that feature? i could really use it :)

This is not something that we could fix easily, and it would require some time of beta testing. Unfortunately, it is not possible to add it as a hotfix for 3.6.x.

We are now rewritting the Area procedures completely, so it is a good opportunity to include this feature to the upcoming Forest 3.7.x betas.

P.D.: you also would try using "Area->Following Spline" to create a similar effect, scattering the items surround an open spline.

ok, that follow spline thing could work but i would need to be able to pick on which side of the spline  i generate objects, as it stands now it generates then equally on both sides while i would like to to only have them generated on inside or on outisde of the spline. that would be good thing to add aswell :) (looks like i can copy that spline and close it and use it as exclude are tho so its a workaround for now but it would be best if we could just make it work on one spline :) )
