Slowdown when using Forest Set to assign surfaces - bug?
« on: September 28, 2023, 01:04:17 PM »
Hello,
I have noticed a big slowdown in scene performance when using Forest Set to assign surfaces. I have multiple forests using a surface that I need to change with different jobs, and initially it seemed like a great way to quickly update the surfaces. However, I have noticed a massive slowdown in the scene performance - cloning objects, deleting objects, adding new objects etc, all come with a really big delay (sometimes 30seconds or more). I tested this morning, and freezing all the FP objects didn't help. Disabling them all instantly fixed the slowdown. So I have manually assigned the actual surfaces to my FP objects, and the problem is fixed.
This is a real shame, as it seemed like such a useful tool but now I won't be using it as it just costs too much time on a day to day basis editing the file, unless there is a bug fix.
I'm running Max 2024, Forest Pro version 8.2.2

Have you tried turning off auto-update on Surface? It's right next to the "Update" button (blue arrows in a circle).

Well, I must admit that is something I didn't try.. thank you yes that has solved the problem. And I have also used FP Tools plugin to do this as a batch command, so it is easy to turn on and off.
I appreciate your suggestion, thank you. Odd that the problem doesn't persist when not using using Forest Set and manually assigning a surface, even if 'auto' is checked on.

Maybe you have something instanted in FS, reference, etc. This could cause problems.
