3ds max 2009 crashes when rendering with Forest Pro
« on: September 05, 2011, 01:41:40 PM »
Hello,
I have a problem with 3ds max 2009 and Forest Pro. When I create a simple scene with a forest with two types of trees on a plane it always crashes down when i hit render (not speaking about more complicated scenes with forest).. What do I do? It seems I can't use the product that I bought.. The crash log says:
mental ray has encountered a fatal error and the application will now shut down. The error is: MEM 0.11 fatal 031008: can't allocate 79511520 bytes.
I am using 32bit system, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2,5GHz, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570 and 3,25GB RAM
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Are you using high-poly trees ? How many models and what size ?

The problem is that Max 2009 was the first version including BSP2 in Mental Ray, and it was very unstable. Further, the 32 bit version is very limited handling large tree models.

I suggest that you convert your models to mrProxies, that would help to save memory. But, if possible, upgrade to Max 2009 64 bit, even using less than 4Gb. RAM the Max performance should be better and more stable.

OK then, it seems we will upgrade the whole system to 64bit and buy also the max 2012. I am afraid, that I don't have any activation try left. Could you give me some more for my installation? thank you.

Don't worry. I have checked your license and it has four activations left. Anyways, i just reset the counter.
