FPP 4.36 Max 2015 Instant Crash
« on: April 21, 2015, 01:49:30 AM »
I'm not  sure what's happening but I'm in the middle of a project and FPP 4.36 will not even launch.
Max 2015 with the latest SPs ends up freezing instantly on a blank scene and then crashes.

In another older scene that had FPP plants in it, it says that there is no valid license however when I look at the license server it says that it is active. FPP Plants are ignored.

I've tried reinstalling both the entire FPP and license server.

I'm in trouble as I need to get this project out tonight.

I think it might be related to Firewall permissions.
Will look into this further.

It seems Forest cannot find the license server, although it should not crash (i will check that).

Besides checking the firewall, please try setting the server IP address, instead the "automatic" mode. That would help.

It's definitely firewall related (Avast Internet Security.)
Crashed again then I disabled it and tried with success.
I thought I added the rules/exception properly so I'm stuck scratching my head on this.

I tried following your instructions above by setting it to 192.168.1.1 and now it says that an error occured while attempting to connect with the license server.

Changed my IP to my local machine at 192.168.1.26 and still receive a crash once the firewall is enabled.

Please send us the minidump generated on crash to support@itoosoft.com. It may help us to trace the problem.
Thanks,

Minidump sent. However here's an update and I don't think it's the firewall now:
1) Disabled Avast Firewall.
2) Opened up License Manager.
3) Nothing listed under computers.
4) License Server started.
5) Open Max.
6) Open up iToo Software rollout and hit Forest Pack.
7) License Manager shows my local IP under computers now.
8) Max hangs indefinitely.
9) IP address in License Manager disappears after a while.

1) Disabled Avast (all shields) until restart.
2) Opened Max.
3) Itoo Rollout and create.
4) Works fine.
5) Repeated these steps and it still works.

Not sure what the problem is with Avast, but I just spent $60 in order to get the latest version of this hoping that it would fix these issues and a decent chunk of time troubleshooting.

Hi, we've found the problem: it's caused by a rare bug in the licensing system. It seems to happen only under certain conditions, in this case with Avast.

Please, try the patches i've sent you by e-mail. If everything is correct, we'll build a public update.
Thanks,

Glad to know it's not just my imagination then but it was a lot of wasted time and extra money upgrading this subscription on a deadline and kept me up working late. Even harder to believe that no one is using Avast.

The latest patch works for FPP.

However, I'm still experiencing crashes with the Railclone Pro patch. This may be a result of having an older version of RCP installed and trying to patch in the latest DLO you emailed. I tried downloading RCP from My Products area but it is not shown there (if you recall we merged two separate accounts yesterday to simplify things.)

So until RCP shows up under My Products, I cannot test it properly.

I'm sorry very much !  I just realized i sent you a wrong RC patch. It has a similar name but it's for a different problem.

As i said, this is a rare bug which we found the last week (from a minidump from other customer). The bug is old, but it seems to be triggered only in Max 2015 under certain conditions. I don't know if the other customer uses Avast or not.

Please, try the patch i just sent you. We're fixed the problem with your account as well.  Sorry again (i've learned that some things cannot be done in hurry).
