Distributing trees (scaled) based on proxy meshs
« on: March 12, 2018, 03:45:54 PM »
Hi All,

I have a potentially interesting scenario - we have some Zmapping 3D Data, the trees are generally the correct height and width with just 1 model replicated hundreds of times. in the past I have created a black and white mask from rendering a top view and then using that as a distributor when I was using Multiscatter. Now that I am using ForestPro I wondered before I replicate the same technique if there is a better approach than the one I have suggested?

thanks! :D

Hi,

Using the Creation Tools > Reference Objects > Distribute Using: Pivot option would be the recommendable way (in FP6 Distribution > Mode: Reference).

Also, you might find useful the "InstancesToForest" script (it's looking in the scene for instances of the objects in Forest Pack's item list. When it finds them they're added to FP, matching the position, rotation and scale).

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
