crystals population (or any other custom objects)
« on: October 25, 2015, 09:06:58 PM »
Hi
I have maybe some easy task, but still maybe there is a quick solution or settings for this.
I'm trying to populate crystals over the object surface, please see the screenshot -

(this was done in custom edit mode )
I tried different patterns and settings, but cannot get forest make similar result automatically
I hope there must be some way to make it working
Thanks

P.S.
the idea is to populate objects as dense as possible so they are not overlapping
(using set of geometry objects - scale 20%, 40%, 60% ...)

Hi,

For these purposes you'll find handy the Collisions feature. I would suggest you to set the Distribution Map (for example the Full one) - Density to low numbers (to get a really dense distribution) and by enabling the Collisions feature get rid of overlapping items.

Hope that helps.

Hi Michal,
Thanks for reply.
strange... I tried that yesterday and it didn't work well. Now it seems to be ok :)

one more question - is there any way to move bigger items manually so the smaller ones follow the changes ?

I think I found solution :)
just need to make 2 separate forest objects
big ones - in manual mode
small ones - in automatic mode + exclude big objects

Thanks :)

Hi,
Could you please check my scene, I don't understand what is wrong... ((
I placed big gems manually.
Now I made forest objects with small gems, and cannot get Object Area working. When I switch it ON, all objects disappear. And density is not enough, I cannot find what is the issue.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for provided scene. There are two issues causing that unwanted behaviour:

1) The Forest Exclude Area should be added by the "Add a Forest object as excluding area" (not with the "Adds a new Object Area" one)
2) There are isolated vertices out of your gem_xx geometry used as items for the distribution. Attaching images how showing the bounding box & those isolated vertices. Removing these vertices will allow to detect the geometry correctly as you can double check on third image.

Attaching modified scene. Hope you'll find it useful.
