Edge Mode doesn't appear to be removing elements
« on: January 13, 2020, 06:03:47 PM »
I'm using some grass objects from Polyget (https://polyget.com/product/grasses/) within a Forest Pack object. I'm only using one surface to place the grass objects, and the individual blades of grass are separate elements. However, when I go into Areas and place the boundary checking on Edge Mode, it doesn't appear to be removing the elements outside of the surface...there is still some grass bleeding out. Just to be sure, it looks at the position of the vertex with the lowest z-value correct?

I don't have an image I can post at the moment, but I can later in the day.

Hi

Please be aware that Edge Mode is not compatible with V-Ray proxies. If you wish to reduce file sizes and use Edge Mode it is recommended to use XRef objects instead.

Just for info, for Edge mode, an element is any group of adjacent faces with the same material ID (not exactly as Max mesh elements).
And the collision point is taken at the vertex with the lowest Z in the element. Basically, the best approach for grass, flowers but not trees.

Please feel free to send us your scene to helpdesk@itoosoft.com to check it here (in case of big file size, please use a web sharing service as WeTransfer.
