Title: Edge mode dosen't work
Post by: Mike123 on May 25, 2022, 12:25:31 PM
Hi,

Today I try the boundary checking with edge option - why it dosen't work?Seems I am right.

I attached my 3ds max file here.

Thx!

Hi,

Thanks for the file. In my test here it appears to be working as expected. Edge mode doesn't slice the model, but looks at each individual element to check if its lowest vertex is inside the area, if it is then the element is retained, if not it is removed. This allows for a more natural spillover at the edges rather than a hard cut.

I hope that makes sense,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thx for your reply.

So that is to say - if my gemometry is a group of grass ( such as circle group), it can't cut the edge perfrectly as well right ?

even using edge mode.

In the case of using a group you wouldn't need to use edge mode because each object in the group would be evaluated individually. Be aware though that in the latest Forest Pack you would need to disable Keep Group Hierarchy in the Items rollout for that to work.

If you enabled Edge mode then each item within the group could be clipped at per-element level as well.

I hope that helps,
Paul

You might find when using groups that Size mode gives you something closer to the results that you want.
