Title: edge mode regular patterns
Post by: QN2744 on September 22, 2017, 11:34:15 AM
Hello all, i am having a problem that is mentioned in other topic already:https://forum.itoosoft.com/forest-pro-(*)/edge-mode-problem/msg17654/#msg17654.
However any of the solutions mentioned in that case can't help me, because i want to produce a regular pattern.
Beyond the position of the samples that forest decide to don't use, the clipping is not working as it is supposed i think. It is only clipping  some elements (the grass).

Any more solution?
Thanks
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

The Edge Boundary Checking mode isn't meant to "slice" the geometry, it's removing elements within one item that are "based out of area used for distribution". There is no "physical cut" performed as this might be extremely resource demanding on large distributions and this "trimmed part" is treated by the render engine as a kind of "Matte object" internally. This way it doesn't affect the overall performance as massive geometry slicing might require huge additional resources.

In this case you'll archive better results using a very simple style in the RailClone plug-in, which will slice the source geometry and handle these "problematic" areas easily. Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Hi , thanks for your answer. i know that is not a  "physical cut", but what's the reason to the render trim out only some elements? It's the same object sample, and  is only "matting" some elements.

Firstly i am doing this pavement in railclone, however i am having a lot of "surprises" attaching it to the surface (this is not planar in the real scene i'm working). I'll try again and come back to you with a render.

Cheers

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Most probably all these polygons are treated as one Element within the object. To be able to "remove" these, you should Detach these parts as separate Elements. Attaching screen-shots.

Hi,

That's a solution to break the geometry in several elements. Thanks.

Anyway i come back to railclone, it's working fine in a simple plane with a noise.
I'm refining the final surface to make it a little beat bigger than the clipping area to avoid the "surprises" i was talking about.

Cheers

Hi,

That should avoid these artefacts. As mentioned =https://forum.itoosoft.com/railclone-pro-(*)/very-disappointed-in-the-rooftiles-implementation/msg18642/#msg18642here (http://=https://forum.itoosoft.com/railclone-pro-(*)/very-disappointed-in-the-rooftiles-implementation/msg18642/#msg18642here):

"To work correctly, the RailClone object should be entirely enclosed by the boundaries of the surface. If the RailClone object overlaps a boundary, unwanted deformation can occur. Making the surface slightly larger (for example by using the Edit Polygons > Outline & Inset tools) should avoid any unwanted deformations."

Best regards,
