Hi guys,
Any help appreciated, I've tried a few things but no luck. As of recently my edge trims appear to be misbehaving, they get trimmed in the viewport and in the render but they leave behind their shadow (untrimmed). I've tried bringing into a new file, checked loads of things but alas the problem persists.
Please see attached to understand.
Many thanks,
Jason

Hi,
if you are using vrayDirt for paving material 'activate ignore invisible objects on vrayDirt settings' may fix the problem.
Best regards.

And increase max transp level in render.
-
Hi,
As already mentioned by RealViz - the renderer most probably exceeded its default transparency limit (which could cause similar render artifacts) and increasing the Global switches - Max transp. levels (default value is 50) should help. Sometimes may be necessary to modify Secondary rays bias also. Please feel free to check this "Some key notes about Areas->Boundary Checking->Edge mode (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=2748.0)" related post: "In the case of very high-density scatters (like dense grass), many overlapping objects could be generated and V-Ray may exceed its default transparency limit (which can cause render artifacts)".
I hope that helps.
Best regards,

Hi guys, tried all those things already, no dirt on objects, transparency set up from 50 -100, no difference.
Kind regards,
Jason

Hi all, I have worked out a work around, it appears all the grass large presets have this problem, all the detail ones are fine, must be some bug somewhere..
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,
Let me mention, that sometimes it's needed to increase the Max transp. levels to a significantly higher value (even 500 or so).
Best regards,

Check if you have Amb. Occlusion OFF in the renderer.
-
Yep tried that RealViz, not AO, thanks for checking though !
Kind regards,
Jason

So now all that's left to do is to send the scene (simplified). I'll check it.
Edit: Pls. max 2022 or older.
-
Thanks RealViz, the problem can be replicated in an empty new scene, I just saw an update to the forest pack lawns so maybe the guys have fixed it :)
Will confirm later,
Cheers anyway

I don't think it's a problem in the FP library. Probably something wrong in the renderer.
-
Can you upload a simple scene here?
-
Here's a scene but it's really just a vrayplane and a FP grass preset. The grass is based off the Common Grass 01 (large) preset, I just deleted two of the grass clumps to make the file smaller (and uploadeable). I've tried all of the above fixes (max transp. levels, no AO, etc) and nothing seems to work. I'm running FP 8.0.9 and VRAY 6.10.02. I just recently updated both FP and VRAY to the latest so I'm not sure where this error popped up.
-
Just open scene, hit render and no problem...
However, 3ds max reported some script errores. Plus I suppose "skylight" is not good to use. Try the classic V-ray setup. So maybe the render is changing some script that isn't running because I don't have it. The script error appeared during the render as well. I'm a bit worried if you have some rogue scripts from "china" (not only china!) that basically malware 3ds max.
-
The script errors are most likely from some callbacks I wrote to automate some functions of rpmanager for my workflow (I've got some prerender and postrender callbacks in place).
What version of vray are you running?
-
I was able to revert back to Vray 6 (not 6.1) and the shadows rendered fine. Reinstalled 6.1 and the shadow problem reappeared. Not sure where the problem is (vray or FP) but at least I know where the problem originates.
-
We have identified this problem with the latest V-Ray (6.10.02). Previous versions seems to work fine.
We just reported it to ChaosGroup.
-
With the help of ChaosGroup, we have identified the problem.
It will be fixed on the next Forest update (planned for the next week).
Problem was caused by a bug of Edge mode with Surface Areas, but it was not detected until now, because some optimizations added to V-Ray 6.10.01. Other areas (as Spline) work fine.
Unfortunately there is not a workaround, except to downgrade V-Ray to the previous version.
-
Thanks for the quick investigation and explanation.
-
Any luck with the updates to this guys?
Many thanks,
Jason
-
We have the update ready, but we're waiting the reply from ChaosGroup regarding other issue.
We would like to include the fix for that issue on this release as well.
-
Brilliant, thanks guys :)
-
We just published the fix in Forest 8.1.0 (https://forum.itoosoft.com/announcements/forest-pack-litepro-8-1-0/).
-
I appreciate Vray is also the problem here but I just tested the update and we seem to have the same problem, do we still need to downgrade Vray in the meantime? Are we waiting for those guys to do an update?
Thanks

No, it should work with current V-Ray. I just tested it, and seems to work fine.
Please, would you send us your scene (https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/how-to-send-a-file-to-itoo-software/) to check it ?
Thanks,
-
Yep, sorry, it appears to be another different problem, I need to double check with some extra renders after I hit this deadline.
From first impressions there appears to be white spills in places, less so than the previous black shadow problem, but still they are appearing, it might need some beefing up on render settings, let me check that first.
Thanks for the update though :)
