Some mats not assigning properly
« on: January 17, 2014, 09:11:55 PM »
I have 54 car proxies.  All unique names with uniquely named multisubs.  I am using one forest and using custom edit under Tree Editor to align them to splines.

Two of the cars do not have the correct mats.  It's as if their IDs were changed somehow.  Taillight material ID
applied to the windshield. Glass material ID applied to the tires, etc.

All the other ones work perfectly.

Any Ideas?  Max 2014 and Forestpack 4.1.5

Thanks

Please convert these two cars to mesh (select the proxy->Import as Mesh), reassign them in Forest, render and tell me the result.

Thanks

I get the same result as the above render.  I imported it as a mesh, and instance it twice to apply my three multisub shaders for different color paint.  I then deleted the old proxies from the forest list and added the new meshes.

Here is how they render on their own/instanced.  Proxy on the left, imported as mesh on the right.

Note, this did happen to me before on my earlier tests with a different style of car, and I had to remove that one from the forest list.  Otherwise everything rendered fine.

This last render seems correct, isn't ? If the problem is specific to certain models, please send us a test scene and we'll check it.

This happened to me when I had a forest object with lots of cars (each containing a multisub)

I think it is to do with the material limit on the multi/sub object being 1000 (I think) in 3dsmax

I had to strip down the number of cars in the scene so that it had no more than 999 in the forest automaterial, anything over that and it just assigns it random colours
